Light and shadows convey the meaning in the film Shadow man. A crucial moment is the lightning which brings parts of the film into focus. The darkness is removed for an instant with light figures that dazzle. The technique used is a mixture of video overlaying and animation. In the film “shadow man” the viewer can sense the despair of people in the modern world. Most of all I have been working with those who have left their place of birth and who search for a better life and dream of freedom. I got the idea for the film from a poem from a friend who experienced the same thing. The aesthetic idea came from a modern poet from the 1940‘s called Beder Shaker Al-Sayab: “I didn‘t know that the path that I left behind me actually lay in front of me. And my dreams have been left behind. I am a standing man for a moving shadow.”
